ADS-B 1090 MHz High-Gain Outdoor Antenna

Professional outdoor antenna optimized for ADS-B reception on 1090 MHz.

With a gain of approximately 12 dBi, the antenna is designed for installations where maximum reception range and strong horizontal coverage are the priority.

The radiation pattern is omnidirectional in azimuth, providing 360° coverage around the installation point. At the same time, the antenna uses a relatively narrow vertical radiation pattern, concentrating sensitivity close to the horizon where most long-range ADS-B traffic is received.

This makes it particularly suitable for:

  • ADS-B.Pro feeder stations
  • VRS X receiver installations
  • Long-range 1090 MHz monitoring
  • Rooftop and mast-mounted receiver sites
  • Rural and low-noise RF environments
  • High-elevation installations with clear horizon visibility

KEY CHARACTERISTICS

  • Frequency range: 978–1120 MHz
  • Optimized for ADS-B 1090 MHz
  • Gain: approximately 12 dBi
  • Polarization: vertical
  • Horizontal radiation pattern: omnidirectional, 360°
  • Vertical half-power beamwidth: approximately 8–10°
  • VSWR: < 1.5
  • Input impedance: 50 Ω
  • Connector: N-Female
  • Radome material: fiberglass
  • Outdoor weather-resistant construction
  • DC-grounded for static discharge protection

RADIATION PATTERN

The antenna provides full 360° horizontal coverage.

Its high gain is achieved by compressing the vertical radiation pattern, producing a narrower elevation beam than a standard low-gain antenna.

This improves reception of distant aircraft close to the radio horizon and reduces sensitivity to signals arriving from very high elevation angles.

For best performance, the antenna should be installed:

  • vertically
  • as high as practical
  • with a clear view of the horizon
  • away from large metal structures and RF interference sources

EXPECTED PERFORMANCE

Actual ADS-B reception range depends on:

  • antenna installation height
  • terrain and surrounding buildings
  • coaxial cable loss
  • receiver sensitivity
  • local RF noise level
  • aircraft altitude
  • line-of-sight conditions

In a well-designed installation with low-loss coax and clear horizon visibility, this type of antenna is intended for long-range ADS-B reception and can significantly outperform small indoor or low-gain antennas.
