Why is VRS X still in closed beta?
VRS X is still under active development and is changing quickly.
The closed beta allows us to test new features, installation flows, integrations and performance with a smaller group of users before opening the software to everyone.
Beta testers help us catch real-world issues that are difficult to reproduce in development, especially across different operating systems, hardware setups, feed types and network environments.
Access is currently limited to active ADS-B.Pro feeders. This is an organizational requirement for the beta programme, not a technical requirement of VRS X itself.
The goal is to release VRS X publicly once the software, documentation and support experience are stable enough for a much larger audience.
VRS X 1.0 is planned for public release, but we prefer quality over rushing a date.
Do I need to feed ADS-B.Pro to use VRS X?
During the closed beta, access to VRS X is currently limited to active ADS-B.Pro feeders.
This is an organizational requirement of the beta programme and helps us keep the testing group manageable while working with users who already operate real ADS-B receiving stations.
It is not a technical requirement of VRS X itself.
The public release of VRS X is intended to work independently and will not require you to feed ADS-B.Pro.
Will VRS X be free?
Yes.
VRS X is planned to remain freeware.
You may use it without paying a licence fee, including for personal and commercial use, subject to the VRS X licence terms.
Some optional services, hardware, support or future hosted features may be offered separately, but the VRS X software itself is intended to remain free to use.
Does VRS X require Internet access?
Not for basic local operation.
VRS X can receive aircraft data from local or network-accessible feeds and display the radar interface without depending on a permanent Internet connection.
Some optional features do require Internet access, for example:
- Central database integrations
- online aircraft, route or operator data
- map or weather services
- software updates
- other external APIs
If those services are unavailable, the core local radar can continue operating with the data available locally.
Can I use VRS X commercially?
Yes.
Commercial use is allowed under the VRS X licence.
You may use VRS X in a business, organization, commercial receiving station or other professional environment without paying a licence fee.
However, VRS X itself may not be sold, sublicensed or offered as a paid software product.
Built-in branding and customization options may be used where available, but required VRS X attribution must remain in place in accordance with the licence terms.
